About Nanadidit
“Nanadidit”, may sound bit hokey, but I love it because my grandson inspired the name. My grandson at the tender age of two coined the name. I made a quilt for him, and he loved it so that he would tell everyone who would listen, “Nana did it, Nana did it,” as he proudly held up the quilt for them to see.
As I continued to craft things, he continued to tell people, “Nana did it”. He became such an effective, “cute and loveable” promoter for me that people began calling me, “Nanadidit”.
I began quilting and crafting while traveling from duty station to duty station during my 20 year career in military service as a solution to a constant problem. You could always depend upon the Army to provide four white walls in your living quarters. The times when I lived off base I always knew I would have to endure builder beige walls, but what do you do?
My Solution: Arts and Crafts
In most cases you could not change the walls and often times your stay would be relatively short. I discovered a solution. Create functional arts and crafts that can travel with you. Here is what I did. I would decoupage coffee tables and television stands. I purchased outlet and light switch faceplates and covered them with fabric and hand painted art. As an accent I used the same fabric to sew or quilt pillows and throws to match. I gave my home, however temporary, that “put together, complete” look and a comfortable, cozy feeling I needed at the end of each day.
As I continued to craft; I discovered that the items I crafted for my family, were the most often used and fondly remembered gifts they received for Christmas or birthdays. I make gifts for my family and friends because, people always remember the things that were created especially for them.
Nanadidit Creations: My Vision
I want so much to share and inspire creativity in people, young and not-so-young. Nanadidit Creations is the best avenue I have found to share the beauty and joy of creating through arts and crafts. After over 20 year of military service my dreams are coming true. I am not certain where this path will end, but I know I must begin and that it will be a great adventure. Now I can truly say “It is not just a Job, it is an Adventure”
